This
2000 year old town likes to flatter itself with its origins which in
turn led the town through very different eras : from a Gallo-Roman to a
Frankish era (it became a royal town during the reign of Childric and
Clovis) to a French, English (it is the only Belgian town to have ever
been under Henry VIII), Spanish, Dutch, French (Louis VIII granted the
town the still existing urban structure), Austrian, French and period
again (during the Revolution and the Empire), and then finally it became
Dutch until the independence of Belgium.
Nowadays, Tournai is the
touristic and cultural capital of a region in the middle of a vast
junction of roads, rivers, railways and even air routes.
Overshadowed
by its monuments, precious traces of 2000 years of history, the "Cité
des cinq clochers" (the town of the five bell towers) welcomes and
invites you to its multiple festivities, in the rhytm of the seasons,
during which over and over again life pulses through this exceptional
spot of Picardy at the borders of the Walloon provinces of Belgium.
The CATHEDRALE Hotel Tournai is the
