Mary of
Burgundy was born in Brussels on 13 February 1457. She
died in Bruges on 27 March 1482, after she fell off her
horse in the woods of the village of Torhout. The tomb
was commissioned by her husband Maximillian of Austria
in Brussels at the workshop of Jan Borman who made the
design and who sculpted the statue of Mary based on her
death mask.
